Should you stick to your strengths?

“Stick to your strengths”, they say. It would be absurd for the fish to aspire to fly, for example - it is designed to swim.

But do we ever ask what is our real strength?

There is something special about humans -  the human is designed to teach itself, to transform itself. Versatility, adaptability, learning… that IS our strength.

It’s written all over - in our anatomy, in our neurology, in our psychology, in our philosophy. Our bodies are extraordinarily versatile, our brains are plastic, our minds can absorb any concept, we can construct meaning out of anything.

So don’t “stick to your strengths”, in the sense of doing what you’re good at here and now. You’re not a fish. Your real strength is the ability to develop anything you wish into a strength.
